Types of Power BI Workspaces

• My Workspace: A personal workspace where an individual can store and work on their own reports and datasets.
• App Workspaces: Workspaces that allow multiple users to collaborate on shared content. These are used to create, manage, and distribute apps containing reports and dashboards to a larger audience.

Power BI Workspace Roles

Power BI workspaces come with role-based access to ensure that users can only perform the actions allowed by their specific roles. The roles control what users can and cannot do within a workspace.

Here are the key workspace roles:

1. Admin:
   • Admins have full control over the workspace. They can add or remove members, change roles, publish reports, and manage the workspace’s settings. Admins also have access to all content within the workspace.
2. Member:
   • Members can create, edit, and view content in the workspace. They can also share reports and dashboards but cannot modify the workspace’s settings or manage access permissions.
3. Contributor:
   • Contributors can create and modify content within the workspace but cannot delete it or change workspace settings. They can add reports and dashboards, and edit or update datasets.
4. Viewer:
   • Viewers can only view the content shared with them. They have no permissions to create, edit, or share reports and dashboards. This role is ideal for users who need access to reports without needing to modify them.

Power BI Workspaces Apps:

In addition to roles, workspaces can be used to publish apps. Apps are packaged sets of Power BI content (reports, dashboards, datasets) that can be shared with a larger audience outside the workspace. When you publish an app, users can view the content in a structured and organized way, typically in the Power BI Service.
